J’avais oublié à quel point c’est un chouette film.<br/>Les personnages sont tellement bien foutus, tellement réalistes, ils ne<br/>servent pas un but ou un quelconque propos, ils se contentent d’exister, <br/>ils chialent, rient, prennent des coups, en donnent aussi, ils boivent,<br/> ils chient… Ils sont tous putains de vrais, profonds, de la plus jeune gosse<br/>au plus con des cousins Hawaïen. Payne filme scène après scène avec la<br/>distance d’un documentariste. Il y a cette magnifique scène où Shailene<br/>Woodley hurle dans la piscine, ou encore la fin avec ces jeux de<br/>champs/contrechamps et les longs cadrages sur mère mourante puis sur<br/>l’urne remplie de ses cendres. “Voila à quoi ressemble un humain lorsqu’il<br/>meurt. Il tient dans un petit carton.” Mais Payne ne s’apitoie pas, ne met<br/>jamais la main sur l’épaule de ses personnages et ne s’abandonne jamais<br/>à du sentimentalisme hollywoodien dégoûtant. Pourtant, l’émotion est là.<br/>“C’est la vie”.
